Finding Purpose Through Community
Starting my placement at LIVEfree Project has been more than just a learning experience—it has been a journey of discovery, growth, and deep connection.
When I first joined, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but over the past few months,
I have been part of something truly special.
I have met incredible people, faced challenges, and found a deeper understanding of what it means to support others and foster equality.
The Moments That Matter
Some of the most powerful experiences have come from the everyday interactions—the small moments that make a big impact. A mother sharing her story and feeling truly heard, a shy child who finally smiled after weeks of hesitation, or a woman leaving a support group with renewed confidence—these moments have reminded me why this work matters. It’s not just about providing services; it’s about creating a space where people feel valued, seen, and supported.
Building Trust on the Brighter Beginnings Bus
Spending time on the Brighter Beginnings Bus has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my placement. It’s given me the opportunity to not only connect with children but also build trust with families—especially the mothers who also attend the Inspire Women Program. Through these experiences, I have gained valuable insights into child development, the importance of creating safe spaces, and the power of holistic family support. Seeing these bonds grow has reinforced just how transformative community connection can be.
Empowerment Through the Inspire Women Program
Working with the Inspire Women Program has been life-changing. Listening to the stories of these women, witnessing their resilience, and being part of their journeys has impacted me deeply—both personally and professionally. I have learned that empowerment comes from fostering environments where people feel safe and supported. Every conversation, every moment of shared strength, has made me even more committed to this work.
One of my proudest achievements has been designing and creating the Inspiring Women Program for the new term in 2025. This opportunity allowed me to take everything I’ve learned and shape a program that will continue to uplift and support women in meaningful ways. Seeing my ideas come to life and knowing they will have a lasting impact is something I will always carry with me.
Navigating Challenges with Strength
There have been moments of doubt—times when I wished I could do more for someone in need. But I have learned that even when I can’t fix everything, I can still offer compassion, presence, and understanding. With the guidance of my supervisors, I have developed the skills to approach difficult situations with both a clear mind and a strong heart. These challenges have made me more resilient, and more prepared for the realities of community work.
The Power of Mentorship and Support
I am incredibly grateful for the support and mentorship I have received throughout this placement. The guidance from my supervisors and the wisdom they have shared have given me the confidence to trust my instincts, reflect deeply, and grow both professionally and personally. I now understand the importance of ethical decision-making, self-reflection, and always putting the needs of the community first.
A Lasting Impact
My time at LIVEfree has shaped me in ways I never expected. It has strengthened my ability to communicate, deepened my empathy, and reinforced my passion for working within the community. More than anything, it has shown me that real change happens through connection, understanding, and unwavering support.
As I move forward, I carry with me the lessons, memories, and relationships I’ve built at LIVEfree. This experience has shaped not only the kind of Community Worker I aspire to be but also the kind of person I want to become—someone who listens, supports, and stands beside those who need it most.
