National Volunteer Week is a time to reflect on and celebrate the incredible contributions of volunteers across our communities. At LIVEfree Project, we want to take this opportunity to highlight the critical role that volunteers play in our programs and the profound impact they have on the lives of those we serve.

The Impact of Volunteers

Our volunteers are the backbone of the LIVEfree Project. They bring passion, dedication, and a sense of community to everything they do. Each volunteer contributes unique skills and perspectives, enriching our programs and creating a vibrant environment for participants. Their willingness to share their time and expertise not only enhances our services but also transforms the lives of individuals in our community.

Thanks to the recent Volunteer Grant from Volunteers Australia, we have been able to further support our volunteers by providing them with the resources and training they need to succeed in their roles. This grant has allowed us to offer workshops, skill development sessions, and appreciation events that recognise the invaluable contributions our volunteers make every day. By investing in our volunteers, we ensure they feel equipped and valued in their important work.

Volunteer Stories

Brighter Beginnings Bus Run: Meet Pete, a dedicated volunteer who drives the Brighter Beginnings Bus Run.

Pete joined the program to make a difference in the lives of families in our community, and his enthusiasm is infectious.

Every week, he picks up children for school, creating a welcoming environment filled with laughter and encouragement.

“I love seeing the smiles on the kids’ faces when they get on the bus,” Pete shares. “It reminds me of how important this service is for families who might not otherwise have access to transportation. Being part of their journey is incredibly rewarding. Through this experience, I’ve realised I’m no better than anyone else—I come in at the same level. It could easily be me needing support one day.”

Pete's commitment goes beyond just driving; he creates a predictable and safe environment for the children on the bus. By maintaining a consistent routine, he helps the kids feel secure and at ease. His friendly demeanour encourages them to open up and share their thoughts, making the bus ride a space of comfort and connection. Many parents have expressed gratitude for the sense of safety their children experience through his presence, knowing they are in good hands during their journey.

Inspire Program: Next, we have Sue, a dedicated volunteer with our Inspire program.

Sue has been with us for many years, running the kids' program while the mothers have the opportunity to engage, connect, and participate in valuable activities.

Her commitment to creating a nurturing environment for both the children and their mothers has been transformative, fostering connections that strengthen the entire community.

“I love spending time with the kids and being even a small part of their journey. It’s incredible to watch them thrive" Sue explains. "You really see how much stronger they all become when they're supported and surrounded by community.”

Through her engaging activities and attentive care, Sue ensures that the kids feel safe and valued, allowing their mothers the space to focus on personal growth and empowerment. Her dedication to their wellbeing is evident, and many families credit her with helping them overcome challenges and develop a positive outlook on life.
